The Nations of Farvion
The year was 501, of the Age of Myth. This was during a time of peace, where adventurers, explorers, and merchants were given the reins of freedom throughout the land. An island east of the realm, long since devoid of civilization, was first ventured to. In this time, adventurers had complete freedom of where they wished to go, encouraged to fully explore the dangers of the world. They did such, on this eastern isle, where many perilous monsters were discovered. This isle was home to many powerful creatures, megabeasts of the world, capable of tearing apart the smaller kingdoms of the mainland. This attracted daring adventurers and intrepid explorers from across the realm, the isle begging to be explored. Half of the explorers would never be heard from again, as many souls were lain to rest by the great wild powers that governed the island at this time.
Several years later, in 541, a port was established in the east. This allowed for more than just adventurers to explore the isle, as it made travel significantly easier. Diplomats and politicians followed swiftly, and eventually, this port was built into a city state. This state grew to become known as Rhodelea, named after it's founder, Julius Rhodes. Not long after this, several smaller towns were established further inland, and a nation began to form.
As the nation of Rhodelea grew, a government for the isle became required. As more and more diplomats and officials arrived, a council was established. This council held representatives of all races, from Human to Halfling. Each race had a say in every matter to be decided. This lead to a mostly fair and just rule, with no race held above another. As the adventurers continued to fend of the monsters of the isle, civilization was established in the east.
A few years of peace passed by, though it did not take long for this peace to begin crumbling away. The Elves were displeased with their role in the exploration of the island, and wanted a more isolated position. In 594, many Elves took to the north, finding many dense forests and vegetation there. They established their own nation, Alvar, where they constructed their own forest retreats and villages.
Not long after the Elves left, so did the Orcs, wishing to not be constrained by the will of others. They wanted absolute freedom, freedom to do whatever it is they pleased. In 606, they left for the northwest of the isle, where savagery and monsters roam wild. They are isolated, but they are not as free as one might think. Their concept of "freedom" was closer to the freedom of becoming their own rulers, dominating over the rest of the Orcs. They established the Mar'koth empire, and to this day oppress themselves, and the other races of the realm who venture too far out.
The Dwarves cared little for the political affairs of Humans, and found home in the more central mountainous regions. They dug out their mountain halls and fortresses, secluding themselves within the earth. They have always cared more for craftsmanship and industry, rather than political affairs. In 637, the grand kingdom of Anvlore was then established, and as many more Dwarves flocked to this new nation, they attracted the commercial genius of the Gnomes. Being cousins to the Dwarves, the Gnomes helped solidify their nation.
The Humans were angered at the other races' departure over the years, and were disappointed that their idea of a perfect civilization had been shattered by the other races' independence. Around 667, they grew hostile towards the other races of the land, growing corrupt in their desire to control the other races. The nation of Rhodelea was abolished, and a new nation was built from it's bones. This nation, with a strong military focus, to subdue the other nations, was called Errothar. It became known across the isle as the gauntlet of the east.
When the Halflings saw what their Human neighbors had become, they wanted no part in the building of Errothar. They swiftly moved to the southern provinces of the land, forming their own nation. In 674, Cinnia was built upon the original notions of Rhodelea, and became hated by the Humans. They are currently protected by many Druids, as they accept all forms of cultures throughout their peaceful hills and forests.
Around the year 700, the Half-Orcs decided they no longer wished to be oppressed by their pureblood Orcish family, and they split off, forming a new nation on Mar'koth's border. This nation was to be called Uul'Keen, which, in the Orcish tongue, means "Warrior's Haven." This nation is hated by the Orcs, but is strangely more appreciated by the Elven nation of Alvar.
In the year 736, the Half-Elves established a new union in the southwestern swamps, near Cinnia. They previously were seen all around the realm, being renowned for their ability to seemingly fit into any racial culture. They share a great bond with the Halflings, as many Half-Elves become some form of Druid, and Druids are appreciated by the Halfling nation. The Half-Elven nation has no name, and is simply a group of swamp retreats in the southwest of the isle, built for sharing and practicing Druidic arts.
Over the past 200 years or so, Farvion has gone through many changes. Many races have established their own nations as areas of the isle became safer, and more devoid of powerful monsters. Far fewer monsters threaten the livelihoods of the nations, however this makes for fewer jobs for the adventurers of the land. The time of peace that once allowed explorers to thrive is over, and war is on the verge of breaking out. Perhaps now, the island is even more dangerous than before...
